  1. The first rule, and possibly the most important one, is to be uncomfortable every day. By pushing your limits on a daily basis, you will come to realise that you can achieve a lot more than you thought possible.
  2. Learn about money. Salespeople who feel at ease talking about money will make more sales. Talking money is the language decision makers understand. The more you understand about money, the more money you will make.
  3. Don’t be shy to try different approaches and strive to be a learner. You can attain sales knowledge by sitting in on seminars and reading informative articles.
  4. Search for a job with a company that understands the value of training. You should continue learning to stay up to date with trends and competitors.
  5. Track sales metrics, like the calls required to secure a lead.
  6. Get a supportive group of people to boost morale.
  7. Be clear on your sales goals and your actions for achieving the goals.
  8. You can’t get upset when hearing, “No.” Don’t take it personally when phoning clients. Remember that it is not a personal call, you are representing your company.
  9. There are a broad range of jobs in sales, so if you aren’t successful in one type of sales job, this does not mean that you won’t perform well in another role. You must know your product to be sure of yourself when you are selling to clients.
  10. Ask probing questions and then listen. Excellent salespeople are not just talkers, but also excellent listeners. Asking questions shows the needs of your prospective client. When you hear your customer’s needs you can adjust your pitch. Listening also teaches you about personality types. Remember not to tell them the solution to their problem, rather build a solution together, letting the customer feel he is in control of solving his own problem.
