Good schooling has a heavy price these days. So much so that also the best students may not be in a position to pursue their higher education thanks to lack of funding. To aid such students, the us government runs different grants programs one of these is the federal pell grant program.
Although the specific amount you get depends upon lots of factors; one thing you have to know is that, almost always, these grants are offered to those who’ve a family income of below $20,000. You will find exceptions, too, however they are far and few in between. However you should also fulfill some eligibility to get the pell grant. To know more, visit Pell Grant Eligibility.
To be able to get these grants, you have to fill up the federal loan application available online, or through your school. Though its easier to do it online, doing it the other way is fine, too.. Although just any US citizen can try for these grants, satisfying a few requirements does help you meet the criteria.
The needs are extremely basic. For instance, you’ve got to be a US citizen to be able to apply. You need to have a valid SSN number as well as good enough academic record. That’s not saying that you’ll require straight A’s however, you do need a good enough record.
Once you’ve applied for these grants, it’ll take a couple of weeks for your results to be announced. Therefore, its usually a good practice to apply early since it gives you ample time and an edge over other applicants who’ve applied late, too. You have to submit a few files once you’ve qualified for the grants.
These docs include but are not restricted to your bank account statements, tax returns, etc. If you’ve already got your bachelor’s degree, you may not apply for pell grants. Even if you’re going for second bachelor’s degree, you aren’t qualified to apply for pell grants. However, if you’re applying for the first time, at all cost, do it!
