Four Key Steps to Your Career Choice
There are four key steps to go through in order to help you decide on your career choice and focus of your career search.
1.Self Assessment
This is about understanding where you are now. What do you know about your likes and dislikes, your skills and capabilities and your experience. How would you answer this if asked at an interview?. Time here creates a strong foundation for your carer activities.
Create a personal inventory of your skills, interests, values, personality and learning style
2.Research
Now you have a better understanding of where you are now and what you like, now is the time to go looking and learn about a variety of careers. Don’t feel rushed into choosing just one career too early your job here is to extend your knowledge.
Learn as much as you can about careers that interest you – how much does it pay, what are the working conditions, etc.
3.Make a Fit
Now you are better informed and in a better place to compare options. It’s now time to decide how to match your personal inventory with careers that require your strengths and skill sets. One thing you could do is to create a list of things that are critical for you from your self assessement and rate your choices out of 5 against each item on your list..
4.Create a Plan
This may include completing a career or development plan, locating an education and or training programme. Thinking is thinking and action is action DO NOT get the two of these confused. A plan is to help you get into Action so find some specific steps you can take that will take you towards your career goals.
