Roles in airport jobs

Airports have a wide range of employers, from airlines to aviation authorities, handling agents, fuel supply companies, retailers, catering or cleaning companies, and the Civil Service.

Seeing as there are airport jobs at most levels, you can fill out an application after leaving school or you could improve on your education at college or university, before applying for airport jobs that earn more. For the most part, airport jobs are applied for after getting experience, especially in customer service jobs.

Besides the obvious airport jobs, like passenger check-in jobs and pilots, there are many more opportunities, including jobs in retail, chef jobs, engineering, bus driver jobs, flight safety and customer service roles.

Working conditions for airport jobs

Airports never close completely, even when it snows, so your job will probably consist of shift work. Shift work will mostly include evening, night, weekend and public holiday shifts on your rota. Since airports are busy places, many jobs involve dealing with customers and problems.

Abilities and skills required for airport jobs

Airport jobs mostly deal with people, so you normally need excellent communication skills. If you can speak a foreign language, you will be a preferred candidate.

You will need to have a responsible attitude and be able to work in a team in all airport jobs.

Entry requirements for airport jobs

For cabin crew jobs you can attend a Cabin Crew Operations Certificate ASET Level 2 Course.

For some positions you wont need qualifications, but others require degree qualifications. Education in subjects like travel and tourism, retail or customer service may help you get an airport job. Often colleges found near to airports offer special courses in fares and ticketing or airline operations.

Every job will have separate entry requirements, so it’s better to research airport jobs on a case by case basis.
