Working in media sales

Media sales jobs are well liked by those who want to earn lots of money by working hard and playing hard too. Your role will probably include nights out socialising with clients and potential clients.

To do this job well you should be confident, well spoken, intelligent and driven. Work can come from start-up companies through to massive media companies. The potential is there to earn a good salary.

Following a passion

No matter what work you do, it is always more rewarding if you have a passion for it. There are all kinds of niche markets within media, so you should be able to end up in an area that interests you. Media covers all kinds of things, from horse racing to rock stars.

But your love for rock music alone will not get you through. Your industry knowledge and love for promoting it and the means of doing so are equally as important. The market will be segmented and you need to understand the inner workings of it. Essentially you need to become informed on the advertising side of the field you want to work in.

It will stand you in good stead if you have a good general knowledge, keep up with current affairs and appreciate various cultures. This will all improve your ability to communicate with high profile clients.

You need to work hard in this job. Developing a good work ethic begins by studying well for your school exams and going to college. Business qualifications are good for this line of work. You may need to start out in an entry level sales position to gain the experience required to apply for a job you are really interested in. Internships of work experience are also good for gaining experience.
